| Beschreibung - Engl.: | Blue Peter was the best racehorse by Fairway. He was one of the best Derby winners of all time, and if the outbreak of WW2 had not prevented the running of the St Leger, Blue Peter could have won the 'Triple Crown'. According to Thoroughbred-Breeding of the World, edited by Rainer L. Ahnert, : "Blue Peter was the foal of a good and tough mare, who had won the not inconsiderable sum of £2,500. Blue Peter gave little trouble when in training. He did not win in his first year of training but he showed promise, and his wise trainer gave him all the time the young colt seemed to want. He won all his four races as a three-year-old, mostly with consummate ease. In Scottish Union he beat the previous year's St Leger winner when they met in the Eclipse Stakes, the very excellent Blue Peter's last public appearance."
Aside from producing some very good racehorses, including Derby winner, Ocean Swell, Blue Peter was another extraordinarily influential jumping progenitor – his grandson, Ladykiller being perhaps the most influential Thoroughbred jumping sire in Germany of all time, through his two great sons, Lord and Landgraf. Again, refer to the entry for Ladykiller for details.
In the United States, Blue Peter was also influential, particularly through his grandson, Blue Murmur, who sired many competition horses, including Night Murmur, a winner of the New York Grand Prix.
In Australia, the Blue Peter bloodline is sought after by jumping breeders and with good reason.
With thanks to Australian showjumping team chef, Stephen Lamb, we find the following top performers with Blue Peter in their pedigree:
Navy Seal (World Cup winner), Mr Currency (represented Australia at the World Cup final), Too Hot To Handle (represented Australia at the World Cup final), Spirit (Australian Showjumping Champion), Slinky (represented Australia at the Seoul Olympics), Albrudee Starman (licensed stallion), Southern Jester (represented Australia at the Atlanta Olympics), Celerity Park Starlight (licensed stallion, and sire of Southern Jester)
The link to Navy Seal and Mr Currency (and many other Imperial Seal horses) is that Blue Peter was the sire of Imperial Seal’s grand dam. Imperial Seal was out of Bleu Azur who was out of Blue Prelude who was by Blue Peter. Current Australian Aachen WEG squad member, Sharpe Seal is by Imperial Seal out of a mare by another fine sire of jumping horses, Dusky Hunter – and yes, Dusky Hunter is out of Dusky Sheila by Blueskin by Blue Peter.
Too Hot To Handle, the horse Tinky Konecny took to a World Cup final was by Moon Sammy, who was by Sun Prince, by Princely Gift, who was out of Blue Gem who was by Blue Peter.
Slinky - racing name Fountain Inn, and born in New Zealand – was by the American stallion, Amalgam out of Maxrae by Messmate by Blue Peter and Messmate is out of Run Honey (Hyperion – the Bay Ronald line again) and on the dam line of Maxrae we find Son-In-Law and Hurry On.
Amalgam’s pedigree reeks of jumper – three crosses of Phalaris, four crosses of Teddy, one of Bayardo, and a cross of Son-In-Law through Beau Pere.
Spirit, the horse that Rod Brown won the Australian Championships on in 1994 at Sydney Royal, was by Mikado, who has a direct sire link to Blue Peter – Mikado, Matrice, Masthead, Blue Peter.
Albrudee Starman is out of a Thoroughbred mare, Star Plan, whose sire Ping Ching was out of Blue Prelude (x Blue Peter)
The link to Celerity Park Starlight (sire of Southern Jester and Witchetty Grub – exported to Malaysia) is via the dam, Fire Image, whose grand dam, Fire Land, was by Blue Fire by Blue Train by Blue Peter. |
